Plantar Fasciitis

The thick band of fibrous tissue that connects the heel and the toes are called Plantar fascia. Inflammation caused by this thick band of tissue will cause plantar fasciitis.


The most common symptom of plantar fasciitis is early morning pain when you put the first step down. Pain is also felt after a period of rest. Heel pain can also occur due to plantar fasciitis.


Plantar Fascia work as an arch support and cushion for the foot. Many times repeated stress can lead to small tear on the fascia. This inflames the area and produces pain and discomfort.

Many times Plantar fasciitis can also happen because of tight calf muscles. Plantar Fasciitis can also happen due to poor footwear. It can also occur due to a flat foot or overarched foot too.

Risk factors:

Though plantar fasciitis can arise without an obvious cause, factors that can increase your risk of developing plantar fasciitis include:

  • Age. Plantar fasciitis is most common between the ages of 40 and 60.

  • Certain types of exercise. Activities that place a lot of stress on your heel and attached tissue — such as long-distance running, ballistic jumping activities, ballet dancing and aerobic dance, running on a treadmill — can contribute to an earlier onset of plantar fasciitis.

  • Foot mechanics. Being flat-footed, having a high arch or even having an abnormal pattern of walking can affect the way weight is distributed when you're standing and put added stress on the plantar fascia.

  • Obesity. Excess weight put extra stress on your plantar fascia.

  • Occupations that keep you on your feet. Factory workers, teachers and others who spend most of their work hours walking or standing on hard surfaces can damage their plantar fascia.

  • Foot wear-Soft cushioned good arch support with a good sole is recommended

  • Weak and tight surrounding muscle can also increase the risk
